Sure Way To Succeed - “Persistence” pays!

  • What is persistence?

It is the act of not giving up even in tough situations, and continuing in a steadfast manner.

Think of it this way. In the journey called life, persistence can be compared to the engine that will take you to your destination of achieving whatever you set your mind on.

Persistence, perseverance, willpower, call it what you want, is highly essential in life. It’s the only thing that can make you go on and on despite all odds you are faced with. It helps you to not get discouraged by past failures.

Here’s a small story to explain how important persistence is.

A man went to a famous guru and asked, “Which way is success?” The latter was silent but indicated a certain direction with his finger. The man got highly excited at the idea of quick and easy success and rushed that way. But soon, a loud “Splat!” could be heard, and in some time, the man got back, limping. He was obviously shocked and shaken and would have thought he must have wrongly read the guru’s message. However, when he repeated his question to the guru, he got the same answer as before.

Though bewildered, he sped again in that direction. Soon enough, a louder “Splat!” was heard and the man got back, bleeding, tattered, and furious. He shouted at the guru and said “I asked you which way is success and went as per your directions. But all I got was bad bruises. No more pointing! Talk!”

Now, the guru spoke. He only said: “Success IS that way. It’s only a little further on after SPLAT!”

How true! A mere bend in the road is not to be confused with the end of the road. Don’t give up in the face of difficulties. How would it feel to know that you were just one step closer to realizing your dream, at which point you had chosen to give up? Keep at your tasks and you are bound to meet with success.

Set your mind on a goal and break it down in actionable tasks. Pursue each task while thinking of it as a piece of the jigsaw puzzle (your goal). Focus on assembling the jigsaw puzzle and you will achieve what you want. You are certain to meet obstacles, but it is here that persistence pays. It will give you the strength and courage to move on. So, go ahead and persist.

You can can think of redecorating your house, arrange a candle light dinner, or anything else you’ve wanting to but just not been able to.

  • Are you a leader?

The art of Leadership is not how best you can do everything but how efficiently you can get things done.

What is leadership or better still who is a leader? When you stop to think, the simplest thing would be,

“He who has the wisdom to lead the people who have placed their faith in him, in the right direction.”

A leader should also have the courage to lead himself, set an example and live life with a good character. A leader is a person who can put himself forefront in times of danger and whom people can depend upon without doubt.

Well the whole world knows Mahatma Gandhi. Here’s a small story which points why he was a great leader:

A lady once came to him with a problem. She said, “Baapu (as he was lovingly called by all) my son is a chain smoker. Please advise him out of this habit.” So Baapu asked to see her son the following week. When they came, Baapu spoke to the boy and he promised to quit smoking. The mother then asked: “you could have given this advise last week only .It was not as if you had something extraordinary to tell him, why did you ask us to come again.” To which Baapu answered: “Up until last week I was a chain smoker myself; what advise could I have given your son? He would have laughed at me. Now I have given up that habit so I am in a position to give him some sound advise. That’s why I told you to come this week.”

No wonder everyone addresses him as Mahatma - the great one. A good leader has to be of sound character, having the capacity to build strong characters in others. If he himself is of unstable character how will he be a good influence to others?

Such will be the qualities of a great leader. A good leader will guide his followers in the right path. He will have a positive influence on everyones behavior. He’ll guide your deeds and actions and has the capacity to hold you in his magnetic power.

A leader is a whole entity by himself. You can find that a leader is innovative, creative and original. Everybody has a leader within; you only have to open the door to the possibility and work with confidence and conviction!! Rightly said by the ADIDAS slogan-impossible is nothing- believe and you can do anything!

  • To each his own-make your identity and create your very own niche

Today, let me run you through a story most of us grow up listening to …

“A sage was once sitting at the foot of the Himalayas, with his disciples. He drew a line on sand and asked each one of them to make the line longer, without erasing or altering the line.

All the students tried, but in vain. They were just not able to come up with a suitable solution; except for one boy, the most hardworking of the lot. He came up and simply drew another bigger line next to the line drawn by his teacher. Now that line seemed small and the teacher was please with his answer.”

The solution to the problem lay in the introducing a new thought and concept. The problem was surrounded by a simple, obvious solution, but the main “problem” was that almost everyone failed to see it.

Though the answer was so simple; none of the students were able to think of it. But, the boy solved it, he was plain innovative and thought out of the box.

Quite often we come across so many issues, which would seem familiar. They will usually be copied versions of a different person’s views. But what you see and do has to be something unique, something different and new, and only then it has more value. Stop thinking and doing things the old fashioned traditional way. Try doing something new each time.

Innovation is nothing more than developing the skill of discovering new solutions to old problems and finding smarter ways of fixing it. One must see things not as they are but as they CAN BE.

If you feel that you’ve never made a mistake in your life, then it means that you’ve never tried anything new in your life, you were never different, you were just like the rest of the crowd, never dared to be different !

You must recognize that one of your highest priorities is to create a work place that rewards curiosity and recognizes that new ideas are the seeds of success. Even one good idea can totally transform your organization. One brilliant new way to increase productivity or enhance quality can make a world of difference in your bottom line.

Perhaps even more importantly, a truly original thought properly excited can change the lives of so many people. That’s the power of innovation, feels Robin Sharma the author of the famous “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.”

When the coping bug starts to eat into your minds your originality in lost .Whatever innovative ideas you can get will also be squashed, when you make use of the easier way out, by stealing ideas and concepts from others. Individuality is lost and in the process eventually, so is your identity!!

  • Principles And Hardwork [Taking Goals To Success]

Each one of us have different ambitions and goals in accordance with our capacities. Whatever the goals/ambitions may be, without proper planning and hard work nothing can be achieved. You’ll have to undergo a number of hardships to achieve your goals.

If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy and inspires your hopes.

Why do I need to set goals for myself?

Setting goals gives you new challenges everyday, ignites the fire within you to hope and work for a better future. Looking for success with your goals , fills you with enthusiasm. Set goals in such a way that they bring a noticeable change in your life, because insignificant goals may go unnoticed.

When you realize what you have to achieve is beyond your capacity, that is when you see a goal. Try stretching your goals to the maximum. Like they say aim for the stars, you’ll atleast reach the sky. Or maybe if your persistent enough the stars too will be yours.

Making written notes of goals will help you remember better, as you know that writing leaves a mark and you will be reminded of it everytime you come across the note. When you feel that your lagging behind in your time schedule, make necessary adjustments.

When you put in hard work, in a structured and principled manner, you will, no matter what achieve your goal. When you finally achieve your goal, make it a habit to treat yourself to a wonderful reward, which encourages you to set more goals in life and work harder to achieve them. Such an act gives you immense satisfaction and contentment.

Your role in achieving your goal must be giving your 100%. Involve yourself fully: with your heart, your mind and your soul.

Set And Achieve Personal Goals

Knowledge of the right kind helps you reach your destination provided you know what your destination is.

When guru Dronacharya was teaching his diciples, the Kauravas and the pandavas, the art of shooting, he tied a toy bird to a tree and asked them to aim at the birds eye.

Before they began he asked each one of them to identify everything that they saw. Each one of the boys had a different answer, one saw the bark of the tree on which the bird was sitting, and the other saw leaves, some saw the fruits too which were behind the bird and so on ..

This was not what the guru was expecting. Finally one boy answered, ‘Guruji I can see nothing but the eye of the bird‘.

The guru was immensely pleased; the boy was none other than Arjuna, one of the younger among the Pandavas, who grew up to be one of the finest archers, in history and till date even.

This excerpt was taken from the Mahabharata-one of the great epics of Indian Mythology, a very fine example of showing how a goal and only the goal is most important and nothing around it should gain your attention.

It is not an easy task, and at the same time it is not impossible either, just a little hard work and concentration is all that is required.

Be alert, have full control over your senses, for you should not be distracted from your goal. You main motto should be ‘I must, I should and I will’, then see the difference for yourself.

What can be done tomorrow, should be done today and what can be done today, should be done right away, because you never know what lies in store for you tomorrow.

A goal properly set is halfway reached

According to me, the main goal should be to be Knowledgeable and well educated as this helps you to distinguish between the right and wrong. In most cases the company that you keep matters the most. “Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are“, so goes a famous saying.

The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. If you do not believe in your goals, then you’ll never be able to achieve them. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.

You don’t have to be a fantastic hero to do certain things - to compete. You can be just an ordinary chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals.

As Paul Meyer said:

“Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people’s criticisms, carry out your plan.”

  • Power Of Positive Thinking

Never judge people by their physical appearances, as looks can be deceptive. You should learn to gauge people by their inner qualities.

Ever wondered as to why some people are more successful than others? They simply think and act efficiently. They choose their ‘company’ very wisely, I mean they deal with people who share positive attitude.

In the words of William James of Harvard university, ‘The Greatest Discovery of My Generation is That Human Beings can alter Their Lives by Altering Their Attitudes of Mind.’ Human mind as a resource is a very valuable asset which no other living creature possesses.

Some of you make a number of resolutions every year hoping to keep them. But you fail to.. ever spent some time debuggin what went wrong and where ? Why were you not able to keep up with your resolutions? Was it Procrastination ? or was it lack of positive thoughts?

Some of you find yourselves in the same position as you were in, the previous year and the year before it and the year before that! No matter how hard you try, you never were able to improve your state, from what you are to what you want to be.

Maybe you lack the confidence in yourself, and give up easily. You must feel confident enough within yourself to follow your own dreams. Your thoughts are your best friend. You come across many factors that can influence your day to day life, all of them are governed by your thoughts. Learn to accept only the right, even if it is difficult to live through, force yourself and accept it, take it up as a challenge to live through that factor.

Allow Your Own Inner Light to Guide You.

Be confident enough that you won’t settle for a compromise just to get by.

But what’s with the power of positive thinking, how important is it for me to develop a positive mindset?

A positive mindset helps you think and do good , keeps your mind fresh and healthy. Negative thoughts are like termites , they slowly eat their way into your system making you a misfit in society. If you fail to keep a check on your thoughts your mind tends to fall prey to others thoughts, not a good thing for you, right? You become an easy toy who can be controlled, your mind offers no resistance to the bad.

You are what you think...

Every thought of yours goes into shaping your character, what you think shows on your face. When you face life with a positive attitude, you’ll notice the glow within. Your approach to tackle the situation is positive, making you as well as others around you happy.

But on the contrary, if you carry negative thoughts, you automatically send out negative vibes, harmful to you and to the society.

If you, are one of those suffering from the negative thinking syndrome, you first need to change your attitude from destructive to constructive and adopt a positive attitude in life so that YOU are a source of inspiration to others and a role model. Learn to appreciate yourself by allowing yourself the opportunities to grow, develop, and find your true sense of purpose in this life. Show everyone around the power of positive thinking !!

  • Dare To Be Thruthful?

Truth is bitter and at times very difficult to digest. Truth is next to godliness; but isn’t it a difficult task to speak the truth and if it has to be followed always then it’s an even more difficult task.

The Truth is heavy, therefore few care to carry it.

Truth signifies goodness, faith, honesty. By being true to your self, you tend to be true to society, spreading peace in the society. In this present day with busy schedules, running for power, position, and everything brings in the need to fulfill all our needs, therefore we are busy devoting more time towards earning more money. Truth has been buried in the middle of all these things and nobody has the time and patience to dig it out.

The very essence of truth has lost its meaning. It’s always true with everyone, we believe in what we want to believe and not what actually is. We resort to hypocrisy most of the times just to be in the good books of others, at times we are dishonest to ourselves!

We find evil feelings, unrest corruption in every field of life, where we are drifting away from the truth. Everyone of us are eager to stand up in other’s eyes in the midst, we don’t notice that we are falling down in our own eyes. If each one of us make a sincere effort to create a falseless environment, free of the demoralized qualities, it definitely will be a wonderful world to live in.

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

Since you know that you are truthful, you have no fear nor do you need to ask anybody’s permission to express your feelings. It gives you the mind to do things right and judge every thing fair and unbiased. You will be a mentally strong person, governed by your true self and not by others. It gives you immense pleasure to do well and feel good, giving you a sense of contentment and a spirit of high self esteem.

You can walk with your head held high; you have nothing to be afraid of or ashamed about. Follow the notion “don’t be one among thousand, be one above them” so that they look up to you, and you will find people really respecting you, craving for your company.

Under any conditions, do not give in to pressures as decisions made under pressure often stray away from the truth. A very warm feeling encompasses your whole family bringing them under its magic. No rejection or any associated feeling of hatred jealousy conflict can come near you because all these are opposite to truth.

The foundation should be laid strong and it often begins from home, where we were born, where we live, and will for ever. It’s therefore important that we enforce, if not all, most of the ‘correct rules‘ right from home. If you are a responsible parent, you’ll teach your children the do’s and the don’ts and lay the right path for them, for they are The Future.

Teach them to be truthful to themselves and to others. Explain the importance of truth in life. Begin with small examples, but see to it that they follow. Set yourself as examples and be the person your kids want to follow.

Being truthful leads to peace of mind, meaning good health, pleasant atmosphere, where there is place for only good qualities. The path of truth no doubt is never easy to tread on, full of hurdles and hardships, but never hurts to speak the truth, leading you into the heaven of peace.

Truth is beautiful without doubt, and for a matter of fact so are lies; but we need to stay rooted to reality rather than an illusion.

  • Time Knows Not To Wait

Quality time in your life is determined by the quality of your time management. Time is your most precious resource, which is perishable and cannot be saved. So using it effectively and efficiently is a must.

“Time and tide wait for no man”

Mastering the art of Time management enables you to control the sequence of events where you are free to choose what you want to do and prioritize. It’s certainly not an easy task, it requires self discipline and self control which are the main qualities that govern all the decisions you take.

You can give time management the description of a vehicle to take you from wherever you are to where you want to go. A very essential quality for time management is the art of saying NO. It is one of the simplest but most difficult to practice.

Living in a world so full of challenging issues to tackle, opportunities and problems waiting you way, it becomes an important factor to learn refusal. Question analysis determines the priority of interruption. If it is a mater of few minutes finish it, instead of saying no and postponing things, again this act should be influenced by your priorities. Don’t waste time on unnecessary interruptions which can hinder your work.

At times you’ll have some “interrupters” coming your and you may find that the interrupter’s actions will be of more importance than yours, or equally as important as yours. Then do not put it off but finish it, helping others when they are in need is great persons quality. Here making proper judgments becomes essential.  Even if you are not in a position to help atleast have the courtesy to guide him to some other person who will be willing to and capable of help him out.

Many a times you feel that the person has interrupted you for a triviality, then you can diplomatically say yes but not now lets see later, not hurting his/her feelings either.

You can exercise your opinion on what is more important and what is just a waste of time. At the end of the day, it is you who is in control of your time so you keep it in your fist so that you do not let others rule over you. Think and act differently, ony then will you be marked above the crowd.

  • Change Is Evolution, Evolution Is Change

The very word change signifies not being able to compromise with any particular situation and is not a very welcoming thought. Many a times people are ready to lead of life of misery rather than give in to the risk of the change in life. They‘d repeat the same process time and again expecting better results than thinking of changes which usually are the better option.

Right from our historic times we can see that man has evolved from mere existence to a life of meaning. His need’s used to be only food, clothing and shelter, but now he has evolved into wanting more; he craves for a better meaning in all his innumerable wants. Now he has reached the computer age, through which anything he desires is only a click away.

If the early man had not accepted change in his life bearing all the hardships, we might still find ourselves to be nomadic. Without changing your self, you cannot evolve into a better you. Evolution does not happen over night, it’s a slow process. If you start today, you’ll see the changes in the distant future, and if you don’t start now, you probably will never notice the changes, never ever!

I came across an interesting article and it came across at the right time, “The New Year:. A lot of us make resolutions, but only a few of us strictly follow. Those who belong to group “who strictly follow”, should read these tips to improve yourself and become more productive.

Thankyou for being with us.
